Hear Him!

And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” – Luke 9:35 (NKJV)

In six days, God created the heavens and the earth. When He made the first day, He said, “’Let there be light’; and there was light’” (Genesis 1:3). He spoke His Word and He created the day. Jesus Christ is the Word of God! The bible declares…

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

John 1:1-3, 14, 16-17

Jesus came to earth to save us by His grace and teach us His truth. So, it is important for us to listen to Him when He speaks. God the Father made that clear when Jesus had taken His disciples, Peter, John and James, up on a mountain to pray. And “as He (Jesus) prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening” (Luke 9:29). While on the mountain, Elijah and Moses appeared and talked with Jesus about what was about to happen to Him in Jerusalem – He was about to suffer and die for the sins of the whole world.

33 Then it happened, as they (Elijah and Moses) were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles (tents): one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!36 When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone…

Luke 9:33-35

Peter wanted to listen to Jesus Who represents Grace and Truth, Moses who represents the Law, and Elijah who represents the Prophets of long ago. But Father God knew exactly what Peter had said and made it clear that we are to hear His Son only. God does not want us to continuously hear the Law for it cannot save us and bring us to the Father. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). God does not want us to follow the Prophets either, for “of this salvation [in Christ Jesus] the prophets have inquired and searched carefully…” (1 Peter 1:10). Also, Acts 10:43 says, “He [Jesus] is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.”

So, don’t listen to Moses and expect him to save you. Don’t listen to Elijah and expect him to save you. Listen to the Jesus, Whom the Spirit of Christ in the prophets indicated the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow (see 1 Peter 1:11). Only Jesus can save! Now, the Hebrew word for “hear” in Luke 9:35 is “Shema, Shema”, which means to hear and keep on hearing. God the Father wants us to hear His Son continuously. He wants us to hear His Son even from the prophets who spoke about Him. He wants us to see Jesus in the bible. And as we continually hear the Word of God, we will find ourselves obeying Him effortlessly. Hear Him today and keep on hearing Him. Sit at the feet of Jesus and hear His word.
