Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! – Psalm 34:8

He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!” (Psalm 22:7-8) These are the words the rulers, soldiers and a criminal had echoed while Jesus hung on a cross on Calvary’s Mountain. They ridiculed Him, shoot out the lip, shook the head and spoke… The rulers said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One” (Luke 23:35). The soldiers mocked Him and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself” (Luke 23:37). One of the criminals who hung on a cross next to Him hurled insults at Him and said, “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” (Luke 23:39) But Jesus did not come to save Himself… He came to save us from our sins. He was nailed to a cross in agony and yet He delighted in His Father and prayed…

11 Be not far from Me, For trouble is near; For there is none to help. 12 Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me. 13 They gape at Me with their mouths, Like a raging and roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, And all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It has melted within Me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust of death. 16 For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; 17 I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. 18 They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. 19 But You, O Lord, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me! 20 Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog. 21 Save Me from the lion’s mouth And from the horns of the wild oxen!

Psalm 22:11-21

Jesus died on that cross as the perfect Lamb of God, a perfect sacrifice for the sins of man. Even in death, He trusted His Father to save Him. Before He died, He said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46). Father God saved Him, for Jesus said, “…You have answered Me” (Psalm 22:21). God raised Jesus from death to life (see Acts 2:32) and today, He sits at the right hand of God in Heaven—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him (see 1 Peter 3:22). God wants us to follow Jesus’s example and trust Him in every trial that we face. He wants us to be patient and keep our eyes on Jesus. So, expect Him to take care of you even in the midst of trouble. Expect Him to deliver you and fill you with His joy. Let Him strengthen you even as you go through tribulations and storms. He will come and save you. He died so that you can live. So, “Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14)

Trust Him and you shall taste His goodness!
You shall be blessed and you shall bless Him!

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
