God shall supply

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus – Philippians 4:19

In Matthew 14:13-21, we read the story of how Jesus fed five thousand men, besides women and children… A large crowd had followed Him on foot from town to town because they wanted to hear the Word of God and to be made well from various sicknesses. Jesus had compassion on them and healed their sick. He did not point out their sins to them but instead loved them. The people continued following Jesus.

Although the people were hungry and had no food to eat, they stayed with Jesus. The disciples urged Jesus to send the people away so that they can go to the nearby villages to buy food. But Jesus’ response was profound. He said, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat” (Matthew 14:16). The disciples answered, “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish” (Matthew 14:17). Now, Jesus knew His disciples could not feed over five thousand people. He was teaching them a lesson about Himself.

Jesus instructed His disciples to bring the people to Him. He took the five loaves of bread and two fish, looked up to heaven, gave thanks, broke the loaves and gave them to His disciples to give to the people.

20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Matthew 14:20-21

Jesus demonstrated and taught His disciples that He is the One Who Provides, the One Who loves us completely. He does not demand “good behavior” from us for His provision. Instead, He freely provides for us out of His abundant riches in glory. Just as Jesus had compassion on the crowd, He has compassion on you too. He loves you and wants to supply all your needs. Ask of Him what you have need of and receive… see His supply flowing from Him to you. Just as He was willing to die for you on a cross to supply salvation from sin, He is willing to heal you and teach you His Word. So, fix your eyes on Jesus and ask. Look at Him today and be blessed.
