When I See the Blood

Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt – Exodus 12:13

In the days of Moses, the children of Israel were in bondage as slaves in the land of Egypt. God had heard their cries for help – “…the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.” (Exodus 3:9) God loved His people and had a plan to bring them out of bondage – “So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in its midst; and after that he (Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt) will let you go.” (Exodus 3:20)

After God had struck Egypt with nine wonders, Pharaoh, whose heart was hardened, would not let the children of Israel go. But when God brought the tenth wonder, Pharaoh did let them go. For God had said “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here.” (Exodus 11:1) “Then Moses said [to the Israelites], Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt; and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the animals’ ” (Exodus 11:4-5)

The Israelites were not immune from God’s Word – “all the firstborn in the land of Egypt will die.” But God always protects His people, just like a hen protects her chicks. God told the children of Israel to take a male lamb from the sheep or goats of the first year without blemish and kill it at twilight. “…Take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they [Israelites] eat it.” (Exodus 12:7) “Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 12:13)

The children of Israel needed to have the blood of the lamb on the doorpost and lintel of their houses. Without it, their firstborns would die. God did not look at who they are, what family lineage they came from, or how good they were in order to protect them. He looked at the blood of the lamb that was on the doorpost and lintel of their houses and passed over them. The Lord kept His word and “struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock.” (Exodus 12:31)

And God protected His people and set them free!

Today, we no longer kill lambs because God has provided a Lamb for us, His only Son, Jesus Christ. It is written, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) It is His blood which speaks better things than the blood of bulls and goats that we can use to sprinkle on our doorposts and lintels of our homes. We sprinkle the Blood of Jesus by speaking and believing. For example: “I plead the Blood of Jesus on the doorpost and lintel of my home in Jesus name!

We speak by faith, believing what we say comes to pass. It is written, “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7) We do not look to see the Blood. Instead we believe that the Blood of Jesus is there and that God sees it and protects us from the evil one. Nothing can penetrate the Blood of Jesus to hurt us… not even viruses. Praise God for the Lamb of God Who took away the sins of the world once and for all. Jesus did a perfect work for us.

His Blood will continually flow upon you when you accept Him as your Lord and Savior.

  • Plead the Blood of Jesus on your home
  • Plead the Blood of Jesus over yourself
  • Plead the Blood of Jesus over your family
  • Trust Jesus for His protection

His banner over you is His Love!
