And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it – Exodus 12:7
God had instructed the children of Israel to take a male lamb from the sheep or goats of the first year without blemish, kill it and put “…some of the blood on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it.” (Exodus 12:7) “And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 12:13) All those who believed the Lord and did as He said, were protected from the plague.
Not only had they put the Blood of the Lamb on the doorposts and lintel of the houses, but they also ate the Lamb. There is no insignificant details in the Word of God. The Old Testament is a shadow of things to come, which is reveal in the New Testament. Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God, for “…God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” (Genesis 22:8) God provided His Son as a sacrifice for our salvation from sin, sickness, pain, death, etc.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
Just as the children of Israel had put the blood of the lamb on the doorposts and lintel of the homes, we can plead the Blood of Jesus on ourselves, our families, friends, and the doorposts and lintel of our homes for protection. And just as the children of Israel ate the lamb, we can eat the body of Jesus. Jesus said, “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in Him.” (John 6:56)
Today, we drink His blood by drinking the cup of the new covenant given through holy communion. We eat His body by eating the bread given through holy communion and by reading and meditating on the Word of God. Jesus said, “Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:54)
Let us continually take communion, and read and meditate on God’s Word for Jesus said, “My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.” (John 6:55)
Meditate on…
And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. – Exodus 12:7
SONG: Sons of God
If you are not able to attend church, take some juice and bread/cracker, lift it up to the Lord Jesus and ask Him to bless it. Next, eat His body and drink His blood, remembering what He did for you on the cross…
Institution of the Lord’s Supper
23 For I [Paul] received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
