The Goodness of the Lord

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living – Psalm 27:13

God is a promise keeping God and whatever He promised you, He will do it. “God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19) If God promised to restore health to you, He will do it and you will see His goodness. Whatever God does is always good. In the beginning, when God made the heavens and the earth, He said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good… (Genesis 1:3-4) The Lord’s goodness can be seen in all the earth. He is good to everyone. Expect goodness from Him.

Sometimes it may seem like the manifestation of God’s promises is taking a long time, but because He promised, He will do it. Remember how the Lord promised Abram a child. He said, “…one who will come from your own body shall be your heir” (Genesis 15:4) Abram “believed in the Lord, and the Lord accounted it to him for righteousness” (Genesis 15:6) Although Abram’s wife, Sarai, was barren — she could not have children — God kept His word. The bible says, “And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him – when Sarah bore to him – Isaac.” (Genesis 21:1-3)

Now, before Abraham became a father to Isaac, that’s before Isaac was born, God called Abraham a father. The Lord said, “I have made you a father of many nations.” (Genesis 17:5) The Lord also changed his name from Abram, which means “high father”, to Abraham, which means “father of many nations”. God changed his name to represent what would be done through him because of His promise. God also changed his wife’s name from Sarai, which means “my princess”, to Sarah, which means “mother of nations”. When God blesses you, He will do more than what you ask or think.

This is our God. He is a promise keeping God! Whatever God has promised you, believe and expect Him to perform His word in your life.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!
