But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4
For centuries, the devil has been roaming throughout the earth, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). But God love us so much that He gave us His word to deliver us from the works of the devil. The bible says, “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16) Jesus Christ is the word of God. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14)
We can use the word of God as a weapon against the devil and his cohorts… but not against people. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12). We use the word of God by speaking it. When the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, He used the written Word of God against the devil’s tricks and lies. The bible says…
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” – Matthew 4:1-4
God want us to follow Jesus’ example and speak His Word because it is the only weapon that can overcome the wiles, schemes, tricks and lies of the devil. When we speak the Word of God, Jesus fights for us… “for this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8) and “the battle is not yours but the Lord’s.” (2 Chronicles 20:15) So when you speak God’s word, know and believe that you have already won because Jesus overcame the devil and won. The bible says, “the ruler of this world is judged.” (John 16:11). We do not fight for victory, we fight from victory.
Therefore, let us meditate and speak God’s word. Jesus said, “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Revelation 3:21)
Meditate on…
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4
