The Root of Jesse will come, even He Who arises to rule the Gentiles; in Him will the Gentiles hope – Romans 15:12
In Matthew 13:5-6, Jesus spoke a parable about the seeds that fall on stony places:
Some seed fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.
Matthew 13:5-6
In Matthew 13:21, Jesus explained the parable to His disciples. He spoke about people who hear the word of God (seed), which is able to save their souls. But when trouble comes on account of the word, they give up and fall away. He said that they have no root in themselves.
Now, no one likes trouble. They are like windy storms similar to hurricanes that cause destruction. After a hurricane passes, the evidence of its destructive power can be seen by all. Several trees lay flat on the ground while others remain planted. Trees that withstand storms tend to have roots that are anchored deep in the earth.
Jesus compared our anchorage in the midst of storms to roots of trees. A root speaks of a connection to a source of nourishment. Having the right connection yoked to the right source of nourishment will keep us standing in the midst of trouble. It will not be done in our own strength but in the strength of the Root.
Praise be to God that “The Root of Jesse will come, even He Who arises to rule the Gentiles; in Him will the Gentiles hope” (Romans 15:12). This Root is Jesus Christ, Who already came. In Revelation 22:16, Jesus said, “…I Am the Root and descendant of David (Jesse), the bright and morning star.” When we have the Root of David in us, He will enable us to stand in the midst of storms. Yes, Jesus will heal and nourish us, and keep us safe in His arms. The bible says, “…remember, it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you” (Romans 11:18).
So today, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Let Him be your root and source of nourishment. Talk to Him and say… “Lord Jesus, I believe that You are the Son of God. Forgive me of all my sins. Come into my heart and take root in me from this day forth. Thank you Jesus for dying to save me. In Jesus Name I pray amen.”
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20
The perfect Root will enable you to stand strong in the midst of storms.
Meditate on…
The Root of Jesse will come, even He Who arises to rule the Gentiles; in Him will the Gentiles hope – Romans 15:12
